As masters of our spheres can we choose who is affected within an area of effect? Can we drop a fireball in an area containing Allies and Enemies affecting only Enemies?

hmmm - very good question that's not currently covered in the difficulty factors table: I know it is the kind of thing D&D allows you to do easily.
I think I would rule it like this: under the "Multiple effects active at once from the same sphere" rules I would say you could do it like this: Round 1 - raise your sphere Round 2 - prepare the spell you want Round 3 - add an extra level of control / finesse to it so that you have very precise control over targeting it, and can thus aim it at enemies only in a group.
