Episode 5 - The Ranch
The survivors fortified the entrance to the ranch with vehicles and posted watches. They spent a peaceful night in the ranch, and it seemed like a good place, especially as Sarah's father-in-law was a survival nut and had a bunker filled with supplies.
In the morning Joe, Chuck, Boris, Bill and Sarah decided to check out the logging equipment, which was located in a clearing about a mile away. They discovered a tractor with a large trailer, a sawmill and an automated tree-grabber/cutter. The farm workers were housed in a log cabin, and after carefully listening they discovered that they were all zombiefied. They broke a window, and shot at the zombies within, killing four of them. After another window was broken, another was shot by Sarah and the one crawling out of the window was decapitated by Joe's newly acquired chainsaw. Bill crawled through the window, but another zombie fell onto him from a balcony. It clawed him badly before Boris shot it with his bow.
The group headed back to the ranch, but as they approached they could see a van and two bikes parked outside. Bill identified these as an evil biker gang, the 'Pig Fuckers'. They circled around to approach stealthily, and observed a nasty bike dude (Butcher) on the balcony, holding his axe to Ravi's throat, as well as a sniper (Mute). Joe used the tree-cutting machine as a distraction, allowing Bill to charge in the door and Sarah and Boris to fire at Butcher and Mute. The two bikers were hit with bullets, and retreated back inside.
Inside the ranch, Bill was confronted with two more gang members, holding the others hostage. A skinny guy (Fruit Loop) was waving a pistol at Francesca, Captain Over and Grandma, while a huge black guy (Knuckles) waved a baseball bat menacingly. Bill leapt at Fruit Loop and got shot before he could get a hit in with his crowbar. While the pilot distracted Knuckles, Bill fought the crazy biker and took another bullet.
Boris, Chuck, Sarah and Joe ran in to help Bill as Butcher cam down the stairs with Ravi. Sarah and Boris both shot at him, while Chuck and Joe helped Bill fight the others. Despite taking hits, Butcher viciously cut Ravi's throat, causing the doctor to fall down the stairs, spraying blood everywhere. He then retreated upstairs, grabbing Meera. After a desperate battle with the two bikers, they were finally put down by arrows from Boris and Joe's chainsaw.
Sarah rushed up to the bedroom, where she found Butcher holding a knife to Meera's throat and Mute aiming his gun at her children. She fired at Butcher, killing him with an accurate shot to the head, and dived to one side as the sniper fired at her. She rolled and fired again, hitting Mute and knocking him back off the balcony to his death. Unfortunately her husband had been mortally stabbed and bled out on the floor as she watched helplessly. (Insert emotional goodbye scene here.)
As Sarah consoled the children, the others cleaned up as best they could. Joe and Bill found a crazy zombie in the back of the biker's van, and they killed it by cutting a hole in the roof and waving the chainsaw at it. Later they tried an experiment with the bodies of the dead bikers. Knuckles had been killed with a chainsaw that had zombie blood on it, and he reanimated, whilst the others stayed dead (as they had died by natural murdering causes).
The survivors surveyed the blood-splattered ranch, and decided it was time to move on again...

And... I am thinking that the infection is in the blood. I propose getting a sample from a recently dispatched zombie to check out in a lab. In a suitably secure container.

so... - if when we get killed, will we be able to start new characters at the same amount of XP as the current ones?
I ask because so far this campaign has been perfect in intelligently applying all of the tropes of the zombie genre: - high mortality rate - people are more dangerous than the zombies when you know the rules about dealing with zombies
All I am waiting for (and I only say this in advance because I know for damn sure Steve has already thought about it) is: the huge zombie horde trapping you in a building...

so... - if when we get killed, will we be able to start new characters at the same amount of XP as the current ones? Yes, that was my thinking. If you get killed, the party will immediately meet another survivor, who, having survived as long, will be of equal experience. I ask because so far this campaign has been perfect in intelligently applying all of the tropes of the zombie genre: - high mortality rate - people are more dangerous than the zombies when you know the rules about dealing with zombies The mortality rate hasn't been high enough as far as I'm concerned! I'm obviously being too kind.

i'm already thinking about my next character... - gonna be a SWAT cop who is the last survivor of their unit, driving around in the big-ass armoured SWAT van, with a shedload of guns, ammo and combat armour.
That's something that's bugged me about the Walking Dead: at one point they picked up quite a few sets of riot armour - and then did NOT start to wear them all the time! - I mean, FFS: it's a fecking zombie apocalypse: there is literally NO better time to wander around fully tooled up in the best armour you can get!
And, joking aside the mortality rate so far has been spot on: having Ravi die right after we found him and his daughter see it was exactly what a good zombie move or show would do... - "here's the doctor who's extremely valuable, and his sweet daughter...
... aaaaand he's dead"

well - it's roughly equivalent to what we have got right now: think about it: we all have: a melee weapon, a pistol and a long gun: a lot of food and water, a vehicle each, an artic truck, and a house with a literal survivalist bunker fully tooled up with supplies, tools, water purification, generator and fuel.
If I have only got a couple of days food and water, and one SWAT truck with all the gear then I'm actually not much better off than a bloke in a pickup with a load of food and gear: all I have is guns and ammo: no one to watch my back, not enough food or fuel for any kind of long trip, or any kind of secure base. At that point it is more about finding a group of people you can trust to hook up with.
[in other words: dude: shush! - I was totally blagging it off Steve there - don't ruin it and I will kit out the whole party - or at least the PCs - with full combat armour, which we will soon die without!]

Episode 6 - The Police Station
The survivors cleared up and rested after the battle with the biker gang and Joe used the tree feller to build a barrier around the ranch. A French hiker, Raynauld, arrived and seemed peaceable enough, so was welcomed inside. They spent a relatively quiet night, disturbed only by the arrival of Susan's zombiefied father-in-law, who was killed by Boris.
In the morning, the majority of the group set off to a nearby town to raid the police station. There were a cluster or zombies outside a TV shop, and Don, Susan, Boris and the kids drove around making noise to lure them away. They let the eldest child practice his driving and succeeded in clearing most of the undead away.
Joe, Bill and Raynauld entered the station cautiously. Bill opened the door, and Joe used his chainsaw to kill a zombie, while Raynauld demonstrated his skill with a pistol, killing two more. Further inside, they opened the door to the rest room and were attacked by a 'double brainer', which had green scales forming on it. Joe swung his chainsaw at it and Bill attacked with the fire axe, but the Frenchman put the creature down with more accurate shots from his pistol. Two more zombies lunged at Joe from behind, but he reflexively turned and decapitated both.
Checking out the rest of the station, they discovered empty interview rooms, and finally a gun store and armour room. After easily defeating the zombie inside, they began to tool up. They were disturbed by the police chief, who had eaten his deputy's brain charging into the room. The creature managed to claw at Raynauld before he shot it in the head, covering himself in green blood.
In the cells, they discovered a hungry and thirsty criminal, who claimed to have been arrested for carrying a gun without a licence. After Joe checked the records, he discovered that he was actually an armed robber. Rather than leave him to starve, they made him cuff himself, opened his cell, and threw the handcuff keys into a corner.
Having successfully looted the station, the survivors loaded up their stash and contemplated their next move...

woo-hoo! - loot!
I loved it when the question of whether anyone was actually wearing the riot gear came up, and me and Kris were both "it's on my fecking character sheet now, so that means I am wearing it!" - and Jake was all "but I've not yet written it down!".
The question is of course - what is our next priority?
I am gonna say: - scouting out ready-made locations with good defenseabilty - looking for solar panels and drones to help out with scouting so we don't have to go look in person - going to one of the prepper / survivalist / camping stores whose location I have written down to loot it for gear as they have a high chance of having a lot of what we need - especially solar powered camping and survival gadgets.
What's the rest of you unruly louts gonna vote for?
