Musings of a Teen Rogue
Thankfully the remainder of the road to Durn’Ukrat was uneventful. I am looking forward to a bit of a respite; I do not think I am going to get any. After meeting the dwarf Seth seemed to have calmed some of his impulsive nature. During the day he read his book. At night he kept watch. Surprisingly he stayed out of trouble the rest of the morning until we reached Durn’Ukrat. A good end to a stressful journey.
As soon as we walked through the gates of Durn’Ukrat Seth found trouble. Again! I swear the boy is cursed.
I am not being totally fair. It was not Seth’s fault a child fell from the statue to near death. I have no quarrel with his instincts to try and save the child. But that mouth of Seth’s is going to lead everyone near-by into trouble. Fortunately Malaya was amused and Imrani was able to smooth things over. Malaya is obviously powerful and important. We will need to deal with her at some point even if it is just a courtesy call that ends in “Thank you but No thank you”. I cannot see a polite way of declining Malaya’s invitation to visit her roost.
Imrani has found a turn of speed. It must be those leather boots that look so odd with her metal armour. The boots would have been really useful scouting ahead, I would have been able to cover more ground and give earlier warning of danger. Imrani must have found them among her people's possessions.
My benefactor has plans. Altaren is very civil, polite, a fantastic host, and a being of power. I am not sure I have the skills for the task Altaren has set. Altaren has assured me that no-one will be harmed by taking the Iron scroll case, in fact the opposite, sharing the scroll case will bring joy and happiness. A little restorative justice and redistribution of wealth is definitely my thing however I have no evidence the dwarven community has done harm or oppresses anyone. I am not sure I should steal the Iron scroll case. On the other hand Altaren has promised to reward my efforts with information on the painted count and I am going to need help when I get to Sarten. My conscience is far from clear.
Step 1 – Reading the lay of the land:
- Town plan and businesses
- Thieves climbing tools
- Lock picks

I will need to keep my eyes open and find out as much as possible before attempting the iron scroll heist, not least verifying it’s location. Fortunately I have some options and if push comes to shove I can always agree to help Malaya to buy more time in Durn’Ukrat.
- Town plan and businesses
o Doors, Windows, Alcoves, Climbable walls and drain pipes,
o Shadows, Common obstacles to mimic or augment with illusion for hiding places
o Easy jumps between buildings
- Gossip (Comprehend language when necessary) - Identifying talented individuals
o Coded gossip and behaviours (thieves cant), Town watch,
o May need to be deliberately careless and “donate” funds to pick pockets
- Locate Iron scroll case
- Layout of building holding scroll case and security arrangements
Step 2 – Equipment
- Light source – Good excuse to wander round town to find resources- Thieves climbing tools
- Lock picks
- Alchemist stuff for diversions and misdirection
- Hired help (probably draws too much unwelcome attention)
Step 3 – Execute (not me)
- Consider a daylight heist. At night they can see me but I cannot see them
