Hi Gandy
After changing the character concept to a noble rather than poor kid from the wrong side of the street I have decided my Villain will be a Japanese American practitioner of Shinto. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinto)
Ryou is the heir to an art house specialising in contemporary human and V'sori works. Despite his youth Ryou is well travelled and has a small collection of his own traded from around the world. As far as the world can see Ryou is a Charismatic and persuasive business man who if crossed can be ruthless and intimidating.
The darker lesser known side of the Ryou is much more interesting. The Summoner is Ryou Kane's alter ego. It is not clear what the Summoner looks like however the presence of the the summoner is evident when spirits manifest and start throwing things about.
A near fatal motorbike accident caused Ryou to get a little closer to the spiritual realm than he appreciated at the time. Following the experience Ryou has started to see and interact with spirits/Kami more directly. Through patient and daily meditation Ryou has learnt the proper forms to petition a small number of Kami who help Ryou in his daily life. Ryou sees it as his duty to rescue Kami from oppression especially those who reside within pure rocks of carbon and other precious minerals.
People misunderstand Ryou. People regard Ryou's spiritual duty as theft. People have accused Ryou clueless (behind his back) rather than taking the time to understand that Ryou communes with the Kami and follows their advice. The Kami have advised Ryou should remain silent about their existence and live as normal a life as possible which is in keeping with his station in society and responsibilities. As a young man in his prime Ryou takes every opportunity to get to know jet-set who frequently enslave the Kami of rocks and Jewels. Ryou discovered early in life that being nice to people helps them to perform generous acts and gift him with the necessities of life (A pent house, Restaurant, fabulous company and parties and other assorted gifts). It was only later after his near death experience the Ryou recognised that the gifts he recieved for his company and discretion were part of a shinto ritual of purification for both himself and his companions.
Ryou never forgets his duties and will caution people against impure actions and the cost to regain their personal purity and clarity of thought.
Last Thursday I forgot to spend all Ryou's starting money. Here is the shopping list
