Right then chaps - I have the feeling that this will be the biggest fight of our lives so far - so we need to do it right! I think we should definitely copy the tactics of the fight against the orc pirate-captain and do our best to kill one of them at range... - which makes me ask: Steve - you know when we were in Crag Crorgar and you said the dwarves were so grateful that they would give us almost anything in terms of weapons and armour? - well, seeing as Tony was not there in person, could we say his character has been able to pick up a bow and shield? (I don't think you have these yet Tone) That way we'd have one more ranged weapon to use in the big fight... Also Steve: would I be able to put together some doses of poison from my herbalism kit? - in the downtime at the stronghold and on the way? - I am not sure what I can make, but something to cause extra pain and / or damage? - and possibly a bit paralysing? - dunno: let me know what is possible... - and I think only having the time to make enough to coat 4 weapons for 1 attack, or 2 arrows each would be reasonable given that there was a time limitation on it. Oh - and my herbalism kit TOTALLY looks like this!

I don't think that I have a bow. That would be grand!

I'm also really curious about what happened on Thursday... as I'm sure you realise!

Tony: the dwarves will give you a crossbow, or you could use one of the shortbows you picked up from the goblins. In either case however, you really wanna use that axe instead!
James: sorry you can't make poison with a herbalism kit, you need a poisoner's kit. Xanathar's Guide has a good section on tool proficiencies, which is worth looking at. For instance, your herbalism kit will give you advantage on medicine rolls to heal someone. You can make potions of healing which take 1 day and 25gp worth of ingredients.
You also have some goblin poison which you can use.

Yeah - saw that: Xanathar's is great - I just hoped there would be a cross over between herbalism and making poison... - oh well... - the morals of using evil means to defeat evil are grey at best: probably best that the young druid cannot act on his momentary temptation...
But: after the visit to the dwarves it does mean we all have a long rage attack method!
And thinking more about what multi-class to go for... - the more I think about it the more it feels jarring for me to be able to use monk's unarmoured defence in wildshape... - it just feels slightly thematically off, you know? - barbarian is a much better fit, and their unarmoured defence is a lot easier to rationalise working when I am in bear or wolf form, you know? (sorry Jonny)
But... - expect a few dozen more changes of mind before this becomes relevant - which is when I go up to L3 and can decide to take a new class or not.

Lets consider ranged options and take 30ft to be a standard move action which is easy to convert into rounds.
Long bow provides the greatest advantege with a top range of 15 move actions with disadvantage plus 5 normal
Heavy Crossbow has a top range of 10 move actions with disadvantage plus 3 normal
Short bow has a top range of 7 move actions with disadvantage plus 3 normal
Eldritch blast has 4 move actions Other cantrips and spells have a range of either 1 or 2 move actions
Fairy fire can provide advantage to hit from 2 move actions Entangle can slow approaches from move actions
The limiting factor is sight. In darkness darksight provides 2 move actions as if in dim light. We are 8 days from the full moon and depending on moon rise and moon set could have natural dim light and may be able to see out to 3 or 4 move actions depending oh how generous our DM feels.
Assuming intelligent foes using dash actions to reduce the time before they can engage in melee we will have two possibly three rounds of ranged attack plus retreat 1 move. Assuming intelligent foes with bows we end up in a standoff and are reliant on us being better hitters causing more damage.
If the big ugly is within 30ft Rimir can attempt to incapacitate them with Tasha's hideous laughter. Rimir has 1 spell slot and will need to forego using Hex for extra damage or hellish rebuke to get one extra attack.

Errata. Forgot we are second level. Rimir has two first level spell slots.

Thoughts of a narcissist.
Just escaped from the Gobbies and the bloody Monk is trying get us all killed. The other Dwarf seems just as bad. Not sure about the Druid, a tad wild, I expected more given his breeding. With all the Orcs and Gobbies there is safety in numbers. Not keen on the planned meet at the Bloodless rock. What could possibly go wrong? Armies of Gobbies, Orcs and Dwarves squabbling over mystic crystals for the amusement of mysterious Dragon lords. Sounds like certain death. The sooner I can get to civilised lands and reclaim my heritage the better. Maybe I should bail before the armies converge? The Dwarf seems to recognise obligations of family. I can work with that. Goblin raiding party, separated from family. What happened to the good people of Locanthis. Was anyone else captured apart from my dear departed friends. What happened to my poor mother and father? Am I now an orphan? The last might not be so bad. I will inherit my father’s lands and if they are occupied I can appeal to the Viscount for protection rather than traipsing the countryside. That blethering bard tutor farther hired may have had point. I’ll have to think more on what he said of soft power and kind words. Note to self: Be nice and encourage good behaviour with words of encouragement.
Out of character Next level Bard. Rationalise use of inspiration and healing as "soft manipulative power to encourage correct behaviour" Rationalise Bard: Great old one whispering in mind to unlock memories and power rather than granting power
