The mini "session zero" was fun on Thursday (but not as fun as playing Slam would've been!) and Lawrence managed to successfully blag playing a drow shadow sorcerer, and Tony rolled up his warforged ranger and Dave his human mystic.
This requires a slight edit to the background of the setting though - I had declared that there was a known power bloc of "The Dark Realm" and wrote: "Rumours persist of an entire subterranean civilization... - but given that interaction seems to solely consist of mutual raids and attacks it is hard to be sure. Certainly, there is intelligent, malevolent and organised life down there..." - but left it there, to be deliberately vague and leave stuff to be found out in play.
But this inevitably means that the Clan knows a fair bit more about the Dark Realm than I'd originally intended, given that Lawrence's character's family comes from a Drow House that got defeated and fled for their lives in the endless plotting and intrigue that the Drow indulge in.
But, you know what? - this is exactly what I mean when I say "collaborative storytelling". You come up with an idea that's not just cool, but also adds depth and plot ramifications to the campaign? - yo' bet yo' sweet ass that's getting written into the official background!
It'd be very cool if everyone could explain why someone of their class and race is part of the clan - how they got recruited: might be their whole small group / house was bought in at once, in a "come with me if you want to live" kind of way, after their larger group got a major arse-kicking. Maybe you're a random orphan adopted into the Clan. Maybe you sought out one of the clan's Towers in a different nation and actually volunteered to be recruited. Never forget - this is a setting with the word "punk" in the title: it's a damn harsh world out there and anyone not able to claim protection from a large institution is fair game.
Remember: the archmage don't give a shit where you come from: when he says "Everyone fights: no one quits" he ain't kidding. If you accept his lordship and take the Clanmark, (and he thinks you will be useful) you're in. It's just that OOC we might need to collaborate on the actual reason such a weirdo joined the Clan - and was accepted!

And here is a Magepunk character sheet I put together - with specific slots for your Clanmark - how many hitpoints it is currently holding and what spell is in it. Magepunk character sheet.pdf (603.35 KB)

OK: a recap of all downloadable stuff people are using for Magepunk, all in one place for convenience: - The Magepunk setting version 3- The Mystic class - Dave's current class choice - Magic items by rarity- a nicer, PDF formatted version than the previous one linked to - Shadow sorcerer - Lawrence's current class choice - Warforged - the current race choice of Kris and Tony - Magepunk character sheet: everyone who uses this sheet gets a free inspiration... If you want to play some obscure class / race combo then provide me with a link to the rules so I can evaluate it and we can all refer to the same source material and chances are it will be approved. I can always host larger files than the 1 meg limit that the free version of this forum allows.

I've had another couple of ideas:
- you will need to decide how you will divide up the benefit that you get from the spells that a captured magic user will cast into the Archmages ring: is it on the basis of "whoever puts the slave collar on them gets it" or "everyone gets an equal cut".
- XP will be partly based on the usual, but instead of giving you more for capturing monsters (instead of just killing them), you will get a bonus based on how many spells you've paid into the Archmages ring.
Who me - deliberately trying to invoke a suitable cyberpunk-esque element of cut-throat competition amongst the players?!

IMO everyone who takes part in the mission should get an equal cut (to avoid one character doing all the work, and another getting all the glory ...too much of that IRL).

I will leave it up to you: I mean - it's not like I am the kind of GM to deliberately engender a bit of PVP tension in order to make it seem very like being in a high-pressure environment like a MegaKorp....

OK: here is version 4 of the rules: updated with a lot more info on the various groups and factions within the Clan. This is by no means final - I will need to make sure what is written here is in line with whatever you lot have written in your character backgrounds.
