How is everyone finding the old school approach? Also, I was sure someone would die in area 2 (I made my stamp especially) ...but it looks like I need to try harder

Enjoying it, I thought I was a shoe in to die. Half orcs are resilient aren't they?

Pleasantly brutal and old skool. Thought the half-orc was a total goner; very surprised he made it!

I love a bit of old school D&D.
Just thought, on the topic of death, it is really hard to die in 5th ed. Did I kill anyone in the whole of the last Jarl campaign?
I don't think this is a bad thing however. No-one realy wants the characters to die, even the DM (unless its James). I really like the death saves mechanic, it provides great tension.

Agreed with the tension from death saves - and no - I don’t think anyone did die in Jarl.
And as I think is obvious, I am trying to make Magepunk a bit more dangerous but not without compensation (in the form of the magic items you all get and the spells saved in the clanmark and the hitpoints saved in it too) without making it over the top insanely deadly.
But - it really warms the cockles of my cold cynical heart to know that Steve thinks of me as a stone-cold player-murderin' pscyho GM!

...it is really hard to die in 5th ed... To be fair, we almost (and, looking at the odds, probably should have) had a death in room 2 of the Barrowmaze ...room 2 of 375.

Also, one of the cool things of the book are the little sidebars written by the author describing how things went in his own game... such as: In my homegame, Tymor One-Eye, a half-elven fighter played by Alex, set off the trap and managed to survive the skeletons. His comrades frantically tried to open the door while Tymor heroically held off the undead.
He was later killed when his arms were ripped off by ghouls in the southern crypts.

"there's ghouls in the southern crypts" - takes notes... - "No - I don't have a problem with spoilers at all!"

They're on the random encounter table (and thus, the dungeon restock table) ...and can be encountered anywhere!

There’s a “dungeon restock” table?!
Doomed!! We’re all doomed!!
... and seeing as that’s kinda the entire point.. - carry on!
