Welcome to the continent of Par’esh. Set in the Southern hemisphere, the continent is a mass of transitioning climates, ranging from warm seas, coastal beaches to the north, mountain ranges, forests, jungles and lush open planes throughout creeping into the frozen tundra to the south. Throughout the lands history, many civilisations have risen and fallen. Civil wars divide countries, Mage councils preformed cous, Natural disasters disrupt trade, and the indigenous creatures reclaim territory for themselves. A notable event in recent history is the partial conquering of the continent by the Fashet Dominion 600 years ago. This empire had a policy of empire first, blood second. After conquering a people it was common practice to repatriate children, people of skill and criminals. As such peoples of different races were scattered across the empire, taking their religions, cultures and technology. The Fashet Dominion did not last, it’s capital and seat of power tore itself apart and the intercontinental empire collapsed in on itself. Cut off from the structure and support. Many people chose to stay in the lives they’d found themselves in, some broke off into their own factions and tried to re-established their born cultures where they were, others sought asylum within powers not tied to the Dominion or chose to make the journey home.
In the 500 years since the Fashet dissolution, the bastions of civilisation dotting the continent have evolved. Some thrived, some blossomed and withered, others splintered and several died. Now the lands of Par’esh are full of old ruins, abandoned towns, unique temples and lost outposts. Through your individual travels you find yourself on the boarder of the free state of Ellasar and the Dwarven mountain kingdom of Ka’thor. Ellasar is a large temperate region ruled by a series of lords, barons and nobles. Most people live in towns and villages owing fealty to a local lord. They pay tax in exchange for protection. Trade is frequent between the local towns but there is little encouragement for people to travel widely. The region is vast and mostly unpopulated given the number of inhabitants and natural predators/deterrents. People are free to move as they please and this land is also home to several tribes, clans and other groups that don't owe any alliance to any lord. They exist in the forests, hills and planes “unowned” by the lords.
The lords work on a simple policy of self interest, no lord can acquire too much land, power or wealth without risking a coup from an alliance of other lords. Instead, they have found balance through tailoring their own regions to provide unique aspects, mutual advancement and a fierce culture of saving face. The personalities and cultural norms between lords and regions are drastically different between but when Ellasar is threatened, they assemble on mass to defeat mutual threats that disrupt the inner balance. Our journeys begin in the mountain village of Dar’garet. Isolated, nowhere special but seemingly on the road to many places that are. At the Oak and Hope tavern, six people find themselves brought together through fate or the chance of a dice. Throughout Par’esh, travel between regions is dangerous, lore is treasured and guarded, trust is earned and while most will offer a traveller a meal and bed for the night, blades are kept close when they are accepted. Where will their journeys lead? Who are they and who will they become? We’ll find out.
