arsecocks! another thing to look out for: those "stinger" spike strips you can throw across a road to puncture the tires of cars: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_stripBut failing that - a plank with a shedload of nails in it, covered up by leaves on the road to the ranch would also work well...

the other half has to go to a school parents evening on Thursday, so I will not be able to make it: Bill will sit in the car and keep the engine running and be ready to floor it and / or blow the crap out of zombies, whichever is applicable.

and one more thing - before we go rifle through the desks of the chief and deputy to see if there's any addresses for the local SWAT team. Too late! You've already left. Well we can go back...

You know when we've cleared out a building, are we taking any steps to secure them if we want to go back?

Episode 7 - The Mini-Mart
The survivors decided to raid the supermarket and stock up on supplies. They could see zombies inside the glass-fronted mini-mart, so Boris charged in and made a lot of noise to attract them. The others stood near the entrance and took pot shots at the undead, taking out about five of them. Boris dodged around a group, and headed towards the back of the store, as a fast-moving zombie charged out towards the other survivors. The creature was covered in thicker green scales than those previously seen, and took 4 bullets and a chainsaw without slowing, before Sarah blew it's brains out.
The mini-mart was looted, with everyone taking their choice items. Boris had two crates of Ukranian vodka, Sarah chose bread and fresh produce, whilst Don went for the wind-up egg timers. With limited space in the vehicles, they closed the place and spray-painted 'Danger' on to the shutters, hoping to come back later for more. Back at the ranch, they rested up and ate a good meal. Boris and Bill drank a lot of vodka.
Day 5 in zombieland began, and Joe, Sarah, Boris, Chuck and Don headed out for more supply runs. Bill was left with the others, nursing his hangover. They headed for a hunting supply shop, 'Zack's Shack'. It was locked up, but occupied. Joe contacted the occupant on the phone and managed to negotiate a trade of a week's food for a crossbow, maps and fishing equipment.
The next stop was a chicken farm. (Of course, where else?) A huge barn contained many cages, each with ten hens. The survivors took 6 cages back to the ranch, and installed the chickens in the worker's hut that they had previously cleared of zombies.
Seeking some more hardware, they located a likely store which also stocked garden and building supplies. They arrived and discovered the place, alongside a motel and diner. Three vehicles were parked outside, one recently used. Presuming that the living may be more dangerous than the dead, they paused to consider their approach...

When Bill comes round from the hangover he's all: "you know what we need? - more people: in all the movies it's whoever's got the most guns who wins"... - so he texts all of the rest of you and says "what do you think about actively recruiting more survivors? - I reckon its a way to get strong fast... - if we check them out well first"

We've got that sussed, a secondary location we can send survivors to, in order to check them out, with a sniper overwatch.

Episode 8 - The Hardware Store
Our heroes saw that the diner was infested with zombies but that the motel looked occupied with at least some people. They attracted the attention of a family of Mexicans who were living there, and gained their trust. They discovered that two females, Steph and Trish, had recently arrived and had offered to collect supplies from the hardware store. They had been gone for over an hour, however.
Outside the store, they could see zombies inside, including a fast-moving one. They called out and discovered Steph and Trish were trapped in a staff area near the front of the store, but could only get to them by entering through the main door. The wedged the door open and Boris, Don and Chuck were tasked with making noise and driving away, hoping that the zombies would follow them. They managed to clear out several using this method, but not the fast-mover.
Sarah and Bill used their riot shields to make a phalanx to protect Joe, who was wielding his chainsaw, and they entered the store carefully, with the others providing cover. A couple of regular zombies were quickly disposed of, but then the fast-moving one charged at them. As it did so, another zombie, even more covered in green scales than those seen previously (a quad-brainer!), leapt on them from the top of a shelf unit. A fierce battle ensued, with Sarah and Bill shooting while Joe used the chainsaw. The zombies were tough, and not only could dodge, but were also protected by the green scales. The quad-brainer managed to get past Bill's shield and tore a hole in his arm and bit him! A second blow knocked him to the ground, bleeding. Eventually Sarah managed to put down the other zombie, as Steph emerged from the nearby room to join the fray. The leather-clad biker girl let rip with an uzi, and helped them defeat the other creature. They attended to the fallen Bill, and Joe noticed that the infection from the zombie bite was quickly spreading. He used his chainsaw to amputate the arm, and Bill passed out, but the infection seemed to have been removed.
They sped back to the safety of the ranch, hoping to help Bill further, but also worried that some of the zombies were able to climb and seemingly lie in wait with animal cunning. Sarah had a call from one of her children which confirmed her worst fears - a zombie had entered the ranch and the kids were trapped in a wardrobe.
As they arrived it became apparent that Bill was not going to make it, so they respectfully chain-sawed his brains and Steph looted his gear. They then left his body on the ground to attract the zombies out of the ranch. They first to appear was a zombiefied Meera, who they shot through the head. Sarah climbed up to the balcony, followed by Joe and Steph. In the front bedroom were signs of struggle. Moving through the upper rooms, they found the body of Raynaud, who was starting to twitch. Joe scrambled his brains. Further on, they found an undead Francesca, who they shot, and finally the infiltrator, who was already badly injured. Sarah finished it with a shot to the head. In front of the wardrobe was Captain Over, bleeding heavily, who had apparently fought bravely in defence of the children. Without waiting to see if he was infected, Sarah shot him through the head.
The children were safe, but apart from Grandma were the sole survivors of the ranch. Deciding it was finally time to move on, they packed everything into the vehicles and returned to the motel to reunite with Hernandez and his family. They settled down for the night, and debated whether to follow up on the information Steph had imparted - apparently the CDC in Orlando has a cure....

Episode 9 - The Journey
Early in the morning the sleeping survivors were disturbed by the sound of a horde of zombies entering the room. They had somehow broken through the barrier and were slowly shambling onto the room. Joe was on guard at the front and failed to hear them until one attacked Carlos, leaving him bleeding severely. Everyone woke up, and headed to the front entrance as the zombies poured in. The party took pot shots at several undead as Joe got people out the door and Don shot out a window allowing easier escape from the main room. Eventually everyone was out safely, and Joe used a canister of gasoline and his creme brulee torch to burn the place down.
As the motel burned, the survivors loaded up with supplies from the hardware store before leaving. They decided to head south, towards Orlando and the CDC. On the way, they sought out better vehicles. They found a container truck, with a metal body, and cautiously investigated it after dealing with the driver. Inside they found some industrial machinery, which they pulled out, and then spent a couple of hours transferring their gear into it. Further down the road, they found a motor home with single zombiefied occupant. With a reduced complement of vehicles, they headed past Columbus and south.
Deciding to avoid major cities, they scouted ahead using the drone, and took side roads around. Most of the cities seemed overrun, and there was evidence of the faster zombies hunting in packs, banding together, and even using tools to get access to other trapped survivors. Carlos had lost a lot of blood, but didn't seem to be turning. (Note that Carlos wasn't actually bitten - I made a mistake - if he had been bitten he would have turned.)
On the second day of the journey (Day 8 since the outbreak), they reached Lake city and discovered a bridge with a horde trapped behind a crashed lorry. Determining that it was too risky, they tried several routes around until finally managing to circumnavigate the place. Further down the road, they found an APC, which looked promising...
