Episode 10 - The CDC
The survivors cautiously checked out the APC, and discovered a 'double-brainer' inside. They tied a string to the door handle, released it and opened fire, killing it before it could do any harm. Inside they found automatic weapons and grenades. They decided the APC was a good vehicle, and ditched a pickup in favour of it.
Heading south, they skirted another city, then spent the night near an abandoned farmhouse. Don ventured inside and had a cosy night in a proper bed. Next morning they drove on towards another city. This time they could not find a way around, so they parked the artic and loaded supplies into the APC. Driving through the centre of the city, they found an intersection overrun with zombies, and with cars and tanks blocking the way. Don tried to ram a car out of the way, but ended up grounding the APC on top of it. They formulated a rescue plan, which mostly worked out. Don and the others opened fire on the zombies at the back of the APC, allowing the pickup to get close enough for Chuck to hook a tow-line onto the APC. He missed, however, and ended up in danger. Don tossed a grenade, which cleared the zombies away, and caused Chuck to dive under the APC, where he found a good place to hook on the tow. Reversing, they managed to pull the APC off the car, and they then found a way around which avoided any more zombies.
The CDC turned out to be a secure building with a chain-link fence and automatic gates. Steph used a radio to browse frequencies and managed to contact the occupants. The scientist they spoke to, Zack, assured them that they had created a cure, but they were running short on supplies of food. The place was apparently full of zombies. They agreed to rescue him on condition he submit to a test of the cure, and he agreed. Zack was able to remotely open doors, and by doing so they had a clear view of the central corridors, which they quickly cleared with their guns. They then entered, in phalanx formation with their riot shields. They were attacked by a triple-brainer, which they managed to destroy with accurate shooting and Joe's trusty chainsaw.
Finally they reached Zack, who turned out to be the sole survivor of the CDC. He seemed reluctant to submit to the test, and made a bolt for the door. Steph shot him in the leg, and they administered a dose of zombie blood. As expected, he turned, proving his serum was a fake.
As they prepared to leave, the satellite phone they had found suddenly bleeped, and a voice said "Hello, this is Houston. Do you have a problem?"
