...also does the purchasing of weapons with R and F values have any restrictions during character gen (other than the usual availability 12 max) ...as I was thinking of a getting a couple of concealed MMG's for the van.
Also if I go for something like a Crimson Samurai drone for example, do I have to purchase the weapon & mount separately?

you know the most recent character generator - Chummer - I've recommended? - well, I had a couple of issues (couldn't find a couple of things I wanted to use) - and I posted a message on the Dumpshock forum, and both times the author of the software got back to me inside a day!
I don't often do this - but I am going to make a donation for this software through Paypal; you don't often see support like that even in professional products!

Also as I've now got the bulk of my character sorted I can lend out the rulebooks I printed off: let me know which one ya want!

Sorry for not getting back to people, the whole moving house thing is quite distracting and being off work for 2 weeks means I dont have much time to read forums and such (I am sure its not supposed to work like that).
Kris- The Citymaster and Roadmaster start built for a fight but lack subtlelty and are likely to attract attention in certain areas, but they can handle attention. The Buffalo will stand out a bit as RVs are not very common in cities but it shouldnt attract the attention of security types as much as the road/citymaster. The Bull-dog GMC step van is an old runner favorite its increased customisation slots makes in nicely versatile and they are fairly common.
If you are wanting to live in your van I would suggest the RV, you can give any vehical amineties but they just improve the quality of whats available, a car with luxury aminieties will have coffee machine, maybe small bar in back, tvs in head rest and an awesome sound system but will still be pants to sleep in. The RV is the best choice for a perminant home, although you will probably want to invest in a workshop/ lock up where you can store gear and work on vehical and drones. Concealed weapons are always a good thing, A concealed (pop-up) heavy turret is better :-D
R and F ratings have no effect at character creation (they do effect buying stuff in game) but should give you an idea of peoples reactions if you have R stuff openly on display you maybe challenged by authorities/ local security if you have F stuff on display they are more likely to challenege you and may jump straight to armed response.
Vehicals and drones come with the listed standard upgrades as part of the cost, so a crimson samurai has a weapon mount but doesnt come with a weapon, but i beilive that it can mount anything short of vehical main weapon. So anything between a tazer and an assualt cannon or rocket launcher is possible. And of course the weapons can be swaped out without too much difficulty to make it a versatile tool.

Andy: don't stress it; even the most rabid roleplayer will admit that moving house takes priority!
Thanks for sorting this all for us: looks like it'll be a cracker!
Also; I think I got those rulebooks printed just in time... - they've moved to one of those systems where you have to enter your personal PIN at the printer to get your printouts...

Well will try and get characters sorted this week and maybe do finishing touches next week if needed, then we should be able to rock on. I think everyone has reasonably solid concepts and most of you have worked out most of the character creation stuff already so hopefully it wont take too long.

Quick question ...the RV has sleeping arrangements for six ...would it be possible to 'overmodify' the van (arsenal p129) at the expense of some of these as I'm running low on vehicle slots (I was actually thinking of drone racks in their place - as that would seem a logical trade-off).

Yea that seems reasonable. I would say each bunk can be traded in for an additional 2 modifacation slots as that would count as loss of function suggested in overmodification section. Anything installed in those slots will cost double due to increased work involved, again as per overmodification rules.

OK ...I've got the basics done (my character & the van/drones) - but I've kept 20BP back (possibly more if I take a few negative traits) for tweaking by someone who actually knows what they are doing

Steve -
Gone through your character stuff, again I havent added up all the gear costs but it looks about right.
Few minor suggestions: You probably want to swap out some of your knowledge skill points to get some ranks in language- english otherwise communicaion could be fun I mean difficult.
Like most foci a spell casting focus has to be attuned to a type of spell, illusion, health etc. As your spells are from a range of 3 types mostly illusion and manipulation the benifit is limited. As an alternative you get a Rating 2 power focus instead the BP you save binding it makes up the 5000 price increase, basically it gives you +2 to any roll that uses your magic attribute. But its up to you mate, bigger bonus but limited use or lower bonus that get more use.
Dont forget that some money was freed up by the garote and memory blade being too high a rating to get at creation.
Everything else looks fine you have a lifestyle payed for, SIN sorted.
One thing, have a think about what he does for fun/ to relax, i would recomend moving some points into knowledge skills linked to that. You never know when knowledge: cooking will help. :-)
As i said in Kris's thread have a think about contacts. I am happy for people to go all in depth in creating them if they want (although i might alter bits and full on family trees is probably going too far even if there is a cool piece of software for it) or if you just want to say I know a talismonger (person who sells magic gubbinz) at ratings 2/2 I will create something appropriate.

I read up on hacking stuff last night when I got home and my first impression was right.
You roll your skill + software rating +- modifiers, you do not add your linked attribute. I was thrown by the auto character sheet which seemed to suggest you did.
Sorry about that.

Yea, your sheet lists the skill and the linked attribute as the total for the skill. Which normally is the case, but when using the matrix programs replace attributes in the standard attribute+ skill model.
See SR main rules Pg. 208 top of the righthand side in the matrix tests section.
The character sheet confused me as well, and made me think I might have misread the rules.

right-ho; will have my character on a USB drive next time so one of the peeps that brings a laptop can load it; when you are looking at it on the screen you can hover over almost any attribute / item / program / drone / gun / cyberwear and it gives you a breakdown over how it got to the game stat.

if this introductory run requires a modicum of subtlety and no shooting if at all possible... - I vote we tell Marvs character that it is vitally important that he goes guard a rock in the park a mile down the road...
